“God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.”
That has certainly been true in my life. Hi, my name is Kami and I’m a mom of three beautiful children who are my entire world: Landon, Colton and Skyler. We are from Southwest Michigan, and I can honestly say I am living out my dreams while fulfilling my calling. You see, all of my life (or for as long as I could remember) I had wanted to teach and coach basketball. After graduating college, my big day had finally arrived! I had my first “big girl job” — my dream job — I was a teacher and a girl’s varsity basketball coach. This was my moment and I felt like I had hit the jackpot.
All my dreams were coming true and plans were falling in line! Problem was, a few weeks later when I got that first paycheck, it was far from what I had hoped. In fact, I couldn’t believe how little it was; even with coaching basketball, this income wasn’t going to cut it. I didn’t do anything about it then, but a seed was planted. I honestly had no idea what was coming, yet God was preparing something and I am so thankful He had a greater plan for my life than the one I had planned for myself.
Reality hit in a BIG way when I got the news I was expecting. Looking back now, I can see that this was going to happen, but when it actually did, I was honestly caught off guard. I felt caught between my dreams of teaching and coaching and my desire to stay at home as a mom. My mom was a work-from-home mom. She did daycare in our home until we were in grade school, then started cleaning homes to have more flexibility. She was the BEST mom and I wanted to offer the same to my babies!
The gravity of our financial situation (or lack thereof) really set in as I held my first born, Landon, in my arms. I took a sabbatical the year Landon was born and I also stepped down from coaching. I realized immediately that I would have to do something while on sabbatical to bring in additional income, but the question was WHAT? I was NOT looking for It Works! but, it found me, and I am so glad it did!!
